Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'But What If I Am Madeleine?'
A woman accused with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly left her a phone message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most covered child disappearance cases and remains unsolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another voicemail, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I possess a living here in Poland, I only wish to discover," the message continued.
The panel was told that through emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an investigator with law enforcement who compiled the information, told the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with family friends of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
That day Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I will persist and I will prove my position."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a association via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in that winter.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had reached out using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period leading up to the appearance to that location, the county, in December 2024.
The court learned communications between the two individuals, in that autumn, considering trying to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from silverware at a eating establishment.
"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the visit to their residence, Mrs Spragg transmitted a message which said: "We're currently positioned near the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case proceeds.
