Doris Makes Irish Team While Joe McCarthy Left Out
Newly reappointed manager Andy Farrell has selected skipper Doris in his Ireland squad for the autumn matches, however lock McCarthy has been excluded.
The captain, who has not played since having a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to Leinster training, with doubts lingering if he will be fit to face the All Blacks in Chicago on 1 November.
Second row Joe McCarthy, however, was not considered after failing to recover from the foot injury suffered during the first British and Irish Lions match against Australia in July.
Ulster forward Izuchukwu and southern province wing Calvin Nash are also absent due to fitness concerns, while number 15 Keenan was previously excluded after having hip surgery following the summer tour.
Leinster forward Paddy McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the sole uncapped member in the 34-man squad, but Irish rugby authorities states uncapped Munster pair Edogbo and Gleeson and previously capped Connacht wing Bolton will travel to the US as "reserves".
Following playing the New Zealand at the Chicago stadium in a repeat of their previous meeting, Ireland will play Japan, the Wallabies and world title holders the Springboks in Dublin.
"There's an exciting look to the squad and it's a chance for the veteran members and for those who made their debuts on the summer tour to Georgia and the Lobos," commented the coach, back to national team duties after a break to coach the Lions tour to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly familiar-looking selection, the Dublin club's Sam Prendergast and the southern club's Jack Crowley will again compete for the starting number 10 position. The fly-half role is remains available, with the two players set to face off for the first time in the upcoming URC game at Croke Park.
Ciaran Frawley is the third number 10 selected with Farrell deciding not to calling up the province's Byrne.
At number 9, the Ireland boss has selected Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who captained Ireland to the summer international wins over the Lelos and the Lobos. Additionally, there is a return for Connacht's Caolin Blade, who is preferred to club-mate Ben Murphy.
Henshaw, Aki, Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey form an veteran cohort of midfield choices. Jamie Osborne is another option in the centres, but the 23-year-old is also a leading candidate to deputise for Keenan at number 15.
Outside backs Lowe, Hansen, O'Brien and Stockdale are named. The winger impressed on his first Ireland outings over the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over Georgia and Portugal.
Paddy McCarthy is the sole new name in the Ireland forwards. The front rower has been in two of his province's three United Rugby Championship matches so far and played in Ireland A's defeat by England in Bristol previously.
The 22-year-old was included in interim boss O'Connell's summer squad, yet did not receive a international appearance.
Southern province second row Ahern, who earned his debut appearances in those Tests, is kept in the squad, while experienced Ulster second row Henderson is back after sitting out the summer tour.
Jack Conan, who started each of the Lions Tests during the tour, is set to cover for the captain should the captain fails to recover full fitness in time to play the All Blacks.
The national team will assemble in the capital on the start of the week before traveling to the US on the following day.
